2026 marks a double milestone for Britain’s most stylish spies.
Sixty-five years ago, The Avengers stepped onto British screens with Dr David Keel, John Steed, and an umbrella that would go on to make television history. From gritty beginnings to the high-kicking glamour of Cathy Gale and Emma Peel, the show redefined cool, exported Swinging Sixties chic across the globe, and gave the world the ultimate gentleman agent.
Fifty years ago came The New Avengers, with Steed returning in 1976 alongside Purdey and Gambit, a trio that injected Seventies verve (and a trend-setting hairstyle) into the franchise.
From the early crime cases of Steed & Keel to the ground-breaking spy-fi partnerships with Cathy Gale, Mrs. Emma Peel & Tara King, then on to the 70s flair of Purdey & Gambit, this iconic series redefined television with its wit, style, and powerful female leads.
Celebrating both anniversaries, Art & Hue has created an official pop art collection inspired by The New Avengers, created in collaboration with STUDIOCANAL, to join the existing prints honouring the cult 1960s series.
To kick off the celebration, Art & Hue is taking a look at the show’s fascinating history, from its missing episodes to its global influence and the sartorial perfection of John Steed.
